Claire Lynch, a joyous musician, dynamic vocalist and creative songwriter all wrapped up into one glorious package, is finally receiving the recognition that has long been due her. She is a veteran of many years standing and is finally becoming recognized as a multi-talented artist who excels at both acoustic country and bluegrass music. When you hear her soulful voice and distinctive presentation you become an instant admirer.
Stylistically, Claire Lynch is not easily pigeonholed. Her style is unique: an acoustic mix of country and folk, with more than a little trace of bluegrass thrown in. She bridges the gap in bluegrass and country music. Vocally, she compares easily to Nanci Griffith, and her singular style is propelling her to a wider audience awareness and acceptance.
Claire first discovered bluegrass as a young woman in Hazel Green, Alabama in the early '70s. She joined a band called Hickory Wind in 1973. Soon thereafter, she married the leader Larry Lynch. By the mid '70s the same band had renamed themselves the Front Porch String Band. A short while later, Claire began working in Nashville as a songwriter and backup singer, becoming a fixture of the Music City scene. Kathy Mattea, Patty Loveless and Tanya Tucker recorded Lynch's compositions. Her vocals graced the recordings of Emmylou Harris, Charlie Sizemore, Linda Ronstadt and Dolly Parton.
The Front Porch String Band was formed in 1975 by a group of students at the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa, one of whom was Larry Lynch. Larry's distinctive work on mandolin, fiddle and bouzouki have been defining sounds of the Front Porch String Band since it's inception.
Michael McLain (banjo, mandolin, vocals) cut his musical teeth performing with the ever-popular McLain Family Band. Being a member of one of the most versatile and musically talented family groups in bluegrass history, Michael's well-versed talent fits well with the variety and spectrum of material the Front Porch String Band has become famous for.
Everybody's favorite bass player, Missy Raines's playing is the foundation for the great sounds that emerge from the band. Missy brings a contagious excitement to the stage wherever and whenever Claire Lynch and the Front Porch String Band perform.
Jim Hurst (guitar, vocals) performed in the touring bands of Holly Dunn and Trisha Yearwood before joining the Front Porch String Band. Besides being an exceptional guitarist, his powerful vocals blend with those of Claire to create harmonies that are not soon forgotten. Once you hear this talented artist and her band you too will become an instant fan.
