With the new wave of acoustic music comes Daybreak, a band of four young musicians that have exploded on the music scene out of Nashville, TN. This modern roots quartet consists of Dan Immel on upright bass and vocals, Edward O’Day on guitar and vocals, Brad Talley on resophonic guitar, and DeAnn Whalen on fiddle and vocals.
Daybreak blends together the sounds of Appalachia and Celtic traditions into their carefully nurtured compositions, and their unique sound has attracted a very diverse group of fans and supporters. All four members contribute original material and collaborate on the writing process. Writing both instrumental and vocal tunes, Daybreak allows DeAnn’s “silky smooth” vocals and their instruments to “weave together as one.” Adding Dan’s powerful pipes on male lead and Edward’s tenor harmonies, they are equally as successful as vocalists and instrumentalists.
Daybreak has toured across the U. S. and Canada playing festivals, clubs and sold out concert halls. They recently performed at the 2002 Folk Alliance Conference and were dubbed as “the highlight” of the conference by Acoustic Guitar Magazine. They have also been featured on the nationally syndicated NPR Broadcast “Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour” and “Bluegrass Breakdown.”
When this group performs, musical creativity, virtuosity, energy and pure enjoyment are transcendent. It is obvious that they love making music together!
