Charles is a professional musician and teacher who won this contest in 1999 and placed 3rd in 2004. This is Charles’ third time to enter this contest. He has been playing the banjo for some 25 years and says, “My favorite thing to the at the Walnut Valley Festival is to win banjos.” He feels this contest is one of the best-managed contests and festivals of all the major ones. He is a busy man back in Seneca, SC as he plays in 4 bands, three of which are Bluegrass Bands. Charles chose the Ome Megatone Bluegrass Banjo by Ome Banjos of Boulder, Co as his prize for first place in this contest.
