Hymns for Guitar Pete Huttlinger (Instar Records) From the time of his first recordings, fingerstyle guitarist Pete Huttlinger has included hymns mixed in with his fiery original tunes and superbly arranged pop tunes. Not a lot of hymns, but just enough to catch people’s attention and create the demand for him to take the next step. “Hymns for Guitar”, is a collection of favorite hymns requested of him by fans via his website and numerous live concerts around the country. Most of the tunes will be recognized by those who enjoy gospel hymns. Included are traditional hymns such as (I’ve Got) Peace Like a River, In the Sweet By and By, Wayfaring Stranger, and I am a Pilgrim, all performed in a fresh new light. A highlight of the recording is “Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus”, a beautiful work with an almost hypnotic flow. One of Pete’s strong suits is that he is an outstanding teacher, “a guitar player’s guitarist”. In keeping with his history of sharing his arrangements of tunes, Pete has made available a companion book for this recording. The arrangements sound like no one else, the styles range from Celtic to Bossa Nova, from traditional chord playing to western swing with a walking bass line.
