The newest recording from New West is a great collection of songs done as only they can do. There are cowboy songs on this recording making it wonderfully true to their nature, but the gems "My Window Faces the South," "A Little Further in the Hole," and "Backin' to Birmingham" give a new look at familiar music with a New West flair. Once again on this recording, Mike Fleming did a superb job writing great songs and producing a very fine CD. "This Boy Can Ride," the opening song on the CD, is a wonderful song about manhood and the call to the life of a cowboy. The Bob Wills-Tommy Duncan song, "Time Changes Everything," show that this band can swing like any good cowboy band should. Not since Flatt & Scruggs has "Backin' to Birmingham" been played with such stature. The smooth mellow vocals from this band are top-notch. The sage, "My Window Faces the South," is spirited with the cleanes guitar playing around by Raul and his trade-off licks with guest violinist, Gabe Witcher, giving vigor to the song. Texas Blues is a wonderful collection of songs from an extraordinarily accomplished band.
