2016 - First place went to musician and guitar instructor named Jack Wilson of Elk Grove Village, IL. This marks the 12th time for Jack to enter this contest. He made the cut to five in 08, 13 and 14 and in 2015 he placed second. Jack has been playing the guitar since 1979 and he also plays the bass. He has a CD out entitled “Fidgity Digits” and that is because one of his hobbies is electronics. His other hobby is wood working. Jack says about the Festival, “there are memories from her that I will cherish for the rest of my life.” Jack chose the Bourgeois OMC Soloist Guitar by Bourgeois Guitars, Inc. of Lewiston, ME and that was in addition to the 1st Place Trophy and a Check for $3,000. He is looking forward to returning to Winfield for the Wednesday evening Champions Concert next year.
2015 - Jack Wilson of Elk Grove Village, IL placed second in this competition. Jack said this is his eleventh time to enter this competition. He made the top five in 2008, 2013 and 2014. He has been playing the guitar for 37 years and teaching and performing for many years. In addition to the guitar Jack plays the bass. His latest CD is entitled “Fidgety Digits.” He recently started doing woodworking and enjoys it very much. He chose the Larrivee LV10E Deluxe Guitar by Jean Larrivee Guitars of Oxnard, CA as his prize and that was in addition to the 2nd Place Trophy.
