Jeff Scroggins has entered this contest five times and in 1988 he placed 3rd and won it all in 1989. This year a friend invited him to come to Winfield and the Festival and he’s glad he did. In addition to playing the banjo for some 26 years, he also plays the guitar. Jeff remembers his first banjo as he says, “I bought it at a pawn shop for $60.” Jeff continues, “I won this contest 17 years ago and it was great fun trying again. I’m currently starting a band with Bob Grey and Bob Goldstein in Albuquerque and I’m also playing with a Northern Colorado based group called “The Lonesome Traveler Bluegrass Band.” Jeff calls coming to Winfield and the Festival “The best four days of every year, they’re great!” When not playing music he enjoys cooking, hiking and camping in what he calls his beautiful state of New Mexico. In addition to the 2nd Place Trophy Jeff chose the Deering Calico Banjo by Deering Banjo Company of Spring Valley, CA
