Matthew Davis

2016 - The first place individual in this contest is a 17-year old high school senior from Murfreesboro, TN. Matthew Davis. History is his favorite subject in high School and college plans are on hold at this time. This was his third trip to Winfield and the Festival and he’ll be back playing in the Wednesday nights Champion Concert in 2017. He placed second in 2014 and third in 2015. Not only does he play a pretty good banjo, he also plays piano, fiddle, guitar, mandolin and pedal-steel bass guitar. He has played the banjo for only five years. CDs? Yes, one entitled “Matthew Davis – Sounds from Home” and “Ramblin Man” with the Republican River Ramblers. “Sounds from Home” are all original songs. The family recently moved from Alma, NE to Murfreesboro, TN where his father obtained a job. His favorite thing to do when not playing the banjo is to volunteer at church. Matthew wins the 1st Place Trophy and an OME “Oracle” Bluegrass Banjo by OME Banjos of Boulder, CO.


2015 - Third place went to a 16-year old home schooled high school student. Matt Davis is in the 11th grade who considers himself a banjo player in addition to being a student. The 3rd Place trophy and a Deering Eagle II Banjo by Deering Banjo Company of Spring Valley, CA will be going back to Murfreesboro, TN with him.
