National Hammer Dulcimer Championship First 2008

Wenzhuo began her Yang Qin, which is also called a Chinese dulcimer, training at the age of 5. In China, which is her home country, she has earned many performance-related awards and distinctions. When she was 13, she was given a scholarship to attend the highly competitive Arts School of He Bei Province, which accepted only one Chinese dulcimer student every two years. After Wenzhuo graduated from the Art School she placed first in the Chinese National auditions and was admitted into the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts where she was awarded her Bachelor’s Degree in Dulcimer Performance in June 2005. In 2004, while pursuing her degree she was awarded the Gold Medal in Beijing-National Youth Arts Professional Competition and the Silver Medal in the Second Orient National Yang Qin Competition.

In 2006, Wenzhuo came to the United States with her Yang Qin. In 2007 she earned her Master’s Degree in Music Education from the State University of New York at Fredonia. Currently, she is a PhD student at Boston University.

In September 2008, Wenzhuo won the National Hammered Dulcimer Championship at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, KS. For her efforts she took home a Huddleson UL400C 10/15/15 Fully Chromatic Hammered Dulcimer by Mike Huddleson Stringed Instruments of Wichita, KS, the 1st Place Trophy and $100 Cash.
